The Pokémon Company have announced via a new trailer that 2018 will be ‘the Year of Legendary Pokémon’. Starting in February, pairs of Pokémon (except in the case of June, where only Shiny Zygarde will be available) will be distributed to Pokémon fans across the globe, and will be available for collection in all of the seventh-generation games: Pokémon Sun, Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon.
These distributions will provide fans of the main series Pokémon games with several opportunities to collect and register some rare Pokémon in their Pokédexes that they may not already own. There’s even an entirely new website dedicated to the distributions, so if you want to check that out and read up about all your favourite legendary Pokémon, you can!
If you haven’t seen the announcement trailer (above), or if you’re just itching to know the legendary Pokémon which will be available each month, the announced list of the Pokémon being distributed each month is as follows:
February: Dialga and Palkia
March: Heatran and Regigigas
April: Raikou and Entei
May: Xerneas and Yveltal
June: Shiny Zygarde
July: Tornadus and Thundurus
August: Kyogre and Groudon
September: Latias and Latios
October: Reshiram and Zekrom
November: Ho-Oh and Lugia
Which legendary Pokémon you receive each month will depend on which version of the game you have, as the one you will receive will be the opposite version’s exclusive that was previously unavailable for you to obtain in the game that you own (i.e. you’ll only be offered the legendary which you couldn’t already have obtained).
Dialga and Palkia, as the first two legendary Pokémon to become available in February, will be distributed via ‘Mystery Gift’ codes from GAME here in the UK and from GameStop in the USA. These Pokémon will be available between February 2nd and February 28th, and their movesets, abilities, and a guide as to how to receive them in-game can be viewed on the legendary Pokémon distributions website here.
One key thing to note about these distributions is that if you download the legendary Pokémon to a copy of Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon, they will arrive in your game at level 100 and will be holding a Gold Bottle Cap (so you can Hyper Train their stats with ease)! If downloaded to a copy of regular Sun or Moon, the Pokémon will be level 60 instead, so a little bit more work to get them to their full strength will thus be required.
The Pokémon Company have also announced other things to tie in with the legendary theme – including new trading cards (Pokémon TCG cards), tie-in events in both Pokémon GO and Pokémon Shuffle throughout the year, and more – so it sounds like 2018 will be a fun-filled and action-packed year for all kinds of Pokémon fans.
Will you be downloading any of these legendary Pokémon? As an avid shiny hunter and collector, I will be sure not to miss that Shiny Zygarde event!
